Agricultural Organic Waste Management

About this course

Expected learning outcomes

• Understand the nature and production pattern of agricultural organic waste, from all various relevant process, including the agro-industrial (food processing) facilities

• Understand the need of proper management of these wastes, regarding both the environmental, as well as, the economic aspects

• Comprehend how the related EU legislation and policies (circular economy, resources efficiency etc) have been developed and the opportunities that can be found towards their implementation.

• Comprehend aerobic digestion or composting, microbiology of the process, parameters that affect efficiency, pathogens and pollutants fate, use of compost, technology and methodologies.

• Comprehend anaerobic digestion, biogas and digestate production, microbiology of the process, parameters that affect efficiency, pathogens and pollutants fate, use of digestate and biogas upgrade, technology and methodologies.

• Understand the processes behind the production of “high added value products” from organic wastes, as for example energy, bioplastic and animal feed and the possible implementation onsite, where the wastes are produced.
